If the road on your Seat’s screen ends in the middle of a field, and a new district or bypass does not exist on the map, the system most likely has old maps installed. Factory Seat systems (RNS Mediasystem with DVD/SD, Mediasystem 2.0, 2.1 / 2.2 and DNS DX with CD) need suitable map discs or SD cards, and choosing them by car model alone is not enough.

Below you will find which system uses which maps, how to identify your version yourself, and what happens at the elMeistrai service points in Vilnius, Kaunas or Klaipėda. No prior registration is needed – just come during working hours.

  • Do I need to register? No. Come to the service point in Vilnius, Kaunas or Klaipėda Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00, there is no need to call in advance.
  • How much does diagnostics cost? The initial diagnostics cost €10. The update price is given after diagnostics.
  • What warranty is there on the maps? A 1-year warranty applies to the map update.
  • How do I find out the Mediasystem version? Press SETUP for 5–10 seconds and select VERSIONS. Three lines – 2.0, six lines – 2.1 / 2.2.

The most common problems with Seat navigation

An outdated map is not always to blame. Below are the symptoms drivers encounter most often.

01€10 diagnostics

The navigation does not know new roads and districts

WhyOld maps are installed. New roads, roundabouts and settlements are simply not recorded in them.

Check it yourselfCheck the map version in the system settings and compare it with your region.

What we doWe update the maps according to your system version (RNS Mediasystem, Mediasystem 2.0, 2.1 / 2.2 or DNS DX).

02€10 diagnostics

The system does not recognise the disc or SD card

WhyIncorrect system version, a dirty or scratched medium, or a faulty reader.

Check it yourselfRemove and reinsert the medium, and check that it is intended for your Mediasystem version.

What we doDiagnostics determine whether the disc, the card or the system itself is at fault.

03€10 diagnostics

Navigation shows the wrong location

WhyWeak satellite signal, an outdated map or a GPS antenna problem.

Check it yourselfDrive to an open area without tall buildings and wait a few minutes.

What we doWe check the antenna, the system and the map version. More in the article Why the navigation shows the wrong location.

04€10 diagnostics

The navigation or screen does not work

WhySoftware error, power supply problem or a faulty device.

Check it yourselfCheck whether the system turns on and whether an error message is displayed.

What we doDiagnostics show whether a software fix is enough or a repair is needed.

Prices

The price of the map update depends on the system, so it is agreed after diagnostics.

Myths about navigation maps

  • Myth. Any Seat map card will work as long as the car is the same make. In fact. Mediasystem 2.0 and 2.1 / 2.2 look identical, but their cards are not compatible. What matters most is the version of the installed system.
  • Myth. A phone app completely replaces the factory navigation. In fact. A phone app works separately from the car’s system and requires a phone and, often, an internet connection. The factory system does not depend on them.
  • Myth. If the navigation shows the wrong location, you definitely need new maps. In fact. The cause may also be a weak satellite signal or an antenna problem. Diagnostics will clarify this.

Which maps are available for RNS Mediasystem systems

Maps for RNS Mediasystem with DVD/SD are divided into two discs by region. The first covers Western and Southern Europe: Ireland, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Spain, Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, Portugal, France, Germany and other countries.

The second disc covers Central and Eastern Europe with a detailed map of Lithuania, as well as Latvia, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, the Balkan countries, Romania and Bulgaria. If you travel to Scandinavia or Southern Europe, you will often need both regions.

If you mostly drive in Lithuania and the Baltic states, the second region with the detailed map of Lithuania is the most important.

How to identify your Mediasystem version

Mediasystem 2.0 and 2.1 / 2.2 look the same, but the card for one version does not fit the other. In addition, Amundsen+ has internal memory, while Mediasystem 2.0 does not.

You can check the version yourself: press and hold SETUP for 5–10 seconds until the VERSIONS menu opens.

  • If 3 lines of information are shown, it is Mediasystem 2.0.
  • If 6 lines are shown, it is Mediasystem 2.1 / 2.2.
  • Software version 026x or 04xx is also Mediasystem 2.0; in other cases, it is 2.1 / 2.2.

Take a photo of the VERSIONS screen – it will narrow down the choice at the service point.

Which Seat models are compatible

According to the description, RNS Mediasystem with DVD/SD is suitable for Seat Alhambra, Altea, Toledo, Cordoba, Ibiza, Leon, Arosa, Exeo, Inca, Malaga, Marbella, Mii and Terra cars from 2007.

Mediasystem 2.0 with CD/SD is specified for Seat Altea, Ibiza and Toledo from March 2009, and Mediasystem 2.1 / 2.2 for the same models from 2011. It is worth checking the compatibility of a specific car by the installed system, not by year alone.

DNS DX system and SD card maps

Maps for the DNS DX with CD system are provided on ten discs: Austria and Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Poland, Germany, Italy, Scandinavia, Spain and Portugal, France, Great Britain, and the main roads of Europe.

Mediasystem 2.0 with CD/SD also uses discs that update the SD card: from the main roads of 38 countries to individual regions, for example Poland–Lithuania–Latvia–Estonia or Denmark–Norway–Finland–Sweden.

What to do when you want to update your maps

Simply come to our Vilnius, Kaunas or Klaipėda service point Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00 – there is no need to call or register in advance. The initial diagnostics costs 10 €, and the update price is quoted and agreed before work begins.

A 1-year warranty applies to the map update. You can find more about general navigation updates on a separate page.

Factory navigation or phone app

Phone apps, such as Google Maps, let you download maps and use them without internet, but they do not replace the car’s system: they do not work through its screen without an additional connection, and maps take up space on your phone and you have to update them yourself.

Factory navigation does not depend on mobile data and shows the route directly on the instrument panel or central display. That is why many drivers choose to update an old system rather than switch to a phone. For more about the process, see the article How to update your car navigation.
