Navigation repair and map updates for MINI cars are usually one of two kinds of work: either the road data is outdated, or the device no longer reads the disc or shows an error. We update MINI navigation systems with a color screen up to 2005/09 and check whether the problem is really in the maps and not in the hardware.

The maps are supplied as a set of 13 discs: from detailed coverage of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to the main roads of Europe. You choose only the regions you drive through. General information about navigation systems of all makes can be found on the navigation update page.

Which MINI models are suitable? All models with a color screen up to 2005/09. If you are unsure about your car, you can bring it to the service point and we will check.
How much does the update cost? The price depends on the selected regions. Approximate prices are given below; we will tell you the exact amount before the work.
Do I need to book an appointment? No. Visit any service point during opening hours, Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00; we are closed at weekends. There is no need to call in advance.
Do the maps come with a warranty? Yes, we provide a 1-year warranty on maps. For repair work, the warranty is specified according to the work performed.

Why the navigation does not work

WhyMost often the cause is a reading error, a damaged disc or a software freeze. Less often, a faulty unit or power supply.

Takes very long to read the disc or shows an error

WhyWorn optics, dust in the reader or a damaged disc. This is common in older devices.

Myths about updating MINI navigation

Myth. Maps in an old navigation system cannot be updated. In fact. For models with a colour display up to 2005/09, Lithuanian and European maps are available, so an update is possible.
Myth. Navigation will not work without the internet. In fact. Such systems use a satellite signal and maps stored on a disc or in memory, so no internet is needed.
Myth. If it shows the wrong location, the unit must be replaced. In fact. Often new maps or a better satellite signal are enough. Why this happens is described in the article about GPS satellite triangulation.

Which MINI maps we install

The maps are divided into 13 regional discs. The third disc, with detailed data, covers Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, while disc 13 contains Europe’s main roads.

We install only the regions you need:

Eastern Europe: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania; Bulgaria, Czechia, Croatia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary
France (northern and southern parts), Germany, Italy with San Marino and the Vatican, Greece
Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Spain, Portugal, England, Scotland and Ireland

If you are only driving through Poland to Germany, you do not need the whole European set – the regions you need are enough.

How to tell that your map is outdated

The first sign is that the car drives where there is no road on the map, or a new intersection is not shown on the map. Another is that the system tells you to make a U-turn where a roundabout was built long ago.

Come to the service point. Choose any service point and come during working hours, Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00; we are closed at weekends. No appointment is needed.
Diagnostics. We check the navigation and determine whether maps or a repair are needed. The initial diagnostics cost 10 €.
We agree on the price. We tell you what we will do and how much it will cost before starting work.
Update or repair. We install the selected maps or fix the fault.
Warranty and collection. We check that the system works and hand it over with a warranty: 1 year for maps.

Customers often ask about MINI navigation

Does navigation work without the internet?

Yes. These systems use the GPS signal and the installed maps, so no internet connection is needed.

Can I use Google Maps instead of updating?

A phone app can help as an additional tool, but it needs a phone and usually the internet. The integrated navigation works in the car without them.

Why does the navigation not work after an update?

The cause may be an incompatible version, an incorrectly installed disc or an error in old equipment. Come to any service point during working hours – diagnostics cost 10 €.
