What Lancia navigation symptoms indicate

Some signs mean only outdated maps, while others indicate a technical fault. Here is how to tell them apart.

01

Navigation maps are outdated

WhyNew streets, roundabouts and motorways are not included on the old disc. The system works, but the routes are inaccurate.

Check it yourselfCheck whether the area you are driving in is shown on the map. Make a note of which region’s disc you are using.

What we doWe select the latest Lithuanian or European map disc suitable for your system (Connect G2/DB3 or RT4/RT5).

02

Navigation does not work

WhyThe reader may be faulty, there may be a software error, a worn disc or an electronics fault.

Check it yourselfRemove the disc, check that it is not scratched, and insert it back. Do not disassemble the system yourself.

What we doFirst we carry out diagnostics – it costs 10 €. The repair price is given after diagnostics and agreed before the work begins.

03

The system does not read the navigation disc

WhyMost often it is a worn CD reader laser or a dirty or scratched disc.

Check it yourselfTry another, clean disc. If the other disc works, the previous one is to blame.

What we doWe clean or replace the reader mechanism and check that the system recognises the disc.

04

Navigation shows the wrong location

WhyWeak GPS signal, outdated maps or a faulty antenna.

Check it yourselfDrive to an open area without buildings and wait a few minutes. To learn more about how location is determined, read the article “GPS navigacijos palydovų trianguliacija”.

What we doWe check the GPS module and the antenna connector and replace them if necessary.

05

The screen is dark or flickers

WhyThe screen backlight may be faulty, there may be a poor contact or a power supply problem.

Check it yourselfTry adjusting the brightness in the system menu.

What we doWe diagnose the screen and the power circuit and replace the faulty part.

06

The system asks for a code or keeps restarting

WhyAfter the battery is disconnected, some systems ask for a PIN code, and a software error causes restarts.

Check it yourselfFind out the PIN code from the car owner or in the manufacturer’s documents.

What we doWe check the software and the power supply and fix errors.

Prices when Lancia navigation does not work

Myths about navigation maps

  • Myth. One disc works for all of Europe. In fact. The maps are divided into 11 discs by region, so each one covers only some of the countries.
  • Myth. If the navigation shows the wrong location, the maps must be outdated. In fact. The cause may also be a weak GPS signal or a faulty antenna. Diagnostics will identify it.
  • Myth. A new disc will fix any navigation problem. In fact. If the CD reader, screen or power supply is faulty, a map disc won’t help – a repair is needed.

Which Lancia systems the maps are suitable for

According to our list, the map discs are intended for two types of systems. Connect G2/DB3 with CD fits Lancia Phedra 2005–2007, Lancia Musa 2007.12–2012 and Lancia Ypsilon 2008.03–2011. RT4/RT5 with CD fits Lancia Phedra from 2007/06.

The maps are divided into 11 discs by region, so you buy only the one you need for your trip.

How to tell that your maps are outdated

The clearest signs: the car „drives across fields” where a new street or roundabout has appeared, new motorway sections are missing, and the route leads along a closed or reorganised road. Read more about this in the article „Why does the navigation show the wrong location”.

Before travelling around Europe, it is worth checking the map of the country you are visiting: the Lithuanian disc (10) does not cover Germany or Italy.

When it is no longer a map issue but a repair issue

A new disc won’t help if the CD reader no longer reads, the screen is dark or the system keeps rebooting. In that case, we first carry out diagnostics – it costs 10 €, and the repair price is given after it and agreed before the work.

A common case is a worn laser reader in older cars. Sometimes it recovers after cleaning, and sometimes it needs to be replaced.
