Toyota navigation maps and their update

As they age, Toyota navigation maps show roads that no longer exist and do not know new intersections. We update Lithuanian (detailed) and European maps for disc, SD card and HDD systems.

Toyota navigation maps are most often stored on a DVD disc, an SD card or an internal hard drive (HDD). How the system is updated depends on this, so we first determine which system your car has.

We update systems of European (EU) Toyotas with DVD (B9000–B9030, 2004–2012), HDD (B9012 – 2009–2012, HDD from mid-2011 – 2012–2013), TNS300, TNS310, TNS350, TNS410 and TNS510, as well as Gen2–Gen5 systems of American (US) Toyotas (2001–2009).

  • How much does an update cost? The price depends on the system type (disc, SD, HDD). We tell you the price after the initial diagnostics, which cost €10, and agree on it before the work.
  • Do I need to make an appointment? No. Just come to any service center on weekdays 9:00–18:00 – there is no need to call in advance.
  • What warranty is provided? A 1-year warranty is provided for the work. The maps include Lithuania (in detail) and the whole of Europe.
  • How do I know if it suits my Toyota? We look at the system model (B9xxx on the screen bezel, TNS…), the year of the car and whether it has an SD card or HDD.

What the signs of outdated Toyota maps indicate

Map problems rarely mean a faulty system – most often it is simply an outdated database or an incorrectly started disc.

01from 45 €

Navigation maps are outdated, new roads are missing

WhyThe maps have not been updated for several years, while new roundabouts, bypasses and overpasses constantly appear in Lithuania.

Check yourselfCheck the system model (B9xxx or TNS) and whether there is an SD card – this will make identification easier.

What we doWe update the Lithuanian (detailed) and European maps according to your system type.

02from 40 €

New Toyota navigation disc gets stuck

WhyBefore inserting a new disc, a startup procedure must be performed. If it is not done, the disc gets stuck in the system or the maps work incorrectly.

Check yourselfDo not insert a new disc until the startup procedure has been performed. It involves disconnecting the battery, so it is better to leave it to a technician at the service center.

What we doAt the service center, the technician performs the startup procedure and inserts the correct disc.

03from 45 €

Navigation does not detect the SD card or shows an error

WhyThe card may have worn out or failed. For TNS510 systems, we update only the old working card.

Check yourselfCheck that the card is in the system and whether it looks like the card intended for TNS350 or TNS510 systems.

What we doFor TNS350 systems, we sell a new card with maps; for TNS510, we update your old working one.

Why navigation shows the wrong location

WhyMost often the cause is the GPS antenna, a weak signal or outdated maps. Read more in the article why navigation shows the wrong location.

What we doAfter diagnostics, we tell you whether an update is enough or another solution is needed.

05from 60 €

HDD system does not recognize updated maps

WhyIn HDD systems (B9012 – Avensis, Prius, Land Cruiser 2009–2012; HDD from mid-2011 – 2012–2013), the map version must match the system.

Check yourselfWrite down the system model (e.g., B9012) and the car’s year of manufacture.

What we doWe update the Lithuanian (detailed) and full European map package for HDD systems.

Myths about updating Toyota navigation

  • Myth. Any map disc will fit any Toyota. In fact. Discs are designed for specific systems and regions: EU, US, Gen1–Gen5, TNS. The wrong version will not work or will get stuck.
  • Myth. You can just insert the disc and everything will work. In fact. For many disc-based systems, a start-up procedure with the battery disconnected is required before inserting the disc. Without it, the disc gets stuck.
  • Myth. Updating the maps requires the internet. In fact. Toyota systems work without the internet – the maps are stored on a disc, card or HDD, so the update is simply a replacement of data.
  • Myth. A new SD card is always possible. In fact. For TNS350 systems we sell a new card, but in the case of TNS510 we update only your old working one.

Which Toyota systems we update

Disc-based systems with a touchscreen (B9000–B9030, 2004–2012) use three discs: Western Europe, Central and Northern Europe (with detailed Lithuania) and Southeastern Europe. Other groups are Gen1 (TNS300, TNS310), HDD, TNS350, TNS410, TNS510.

For American Toyotas (Camry, Highlander, Prius, Land Cruiser, etc., Gen2–Gen5) we also have maps of Lithuania and Europe, and for Gen4 and Gen5 systems – a separate Baltic countries and Russia version.

  • B9000–B9030 with DVD, 2004–2012
  • B9012 with HDD – Avensis, Prius, Land Cruiser, 2009–2012
  • HDD from mid-2011 – Avensis, Prius, Land Cruiser, 2012–2013
  • TNS350, TNS510 with SD card
  • TNS410 with a removable TomTom device
  • TNS300 / TNS310 (Gen1) – Avensis, Yaris, Rav4, Land Cruiser 120

Technician’s tip: take a photo of the start-up screen and the system label on the screen bezel – this way we will identify the model faster.

Toyota navigation SD card and map disc

How to identify your system before you arrive

For a disc-based system, the B9xxx model is usually written on the screen bezel at the bottom right. There must be no SD card or internal HDD, and the screen must be a touchscreen.

The car for such a system must have been manufactured in 2004–2012. If you are in doubt, come to the service centre – we will determine the model on site.

What to bring with you

  • Come with your car or, if the system has a removable TomTom device, with that device
  • If you can, take a photo of the start-up screen
  • Find the system model (B9xxx on the screen bezel, TNS…)
  • Know the make of your car and its year of manufacture
  • For a TNS510 system, bring your old working SD card

Customers often ask about Toyota navigation

Toyota navigation disc – which one fits?

It depends on the system model and region (EU or US). Disc-based systems have three different discs, and the detailed Lithuania map is on the second one.

Navigation without internet – does Toyota’s work like that?

Yes, the maps are stored on a disc, card or HDD, so a constant internet connection is not needed.

Navigation map update in Kaunas – how much does it cost?

The price depends on the system type and is given after the initial diagnostics (10 €). We also update in Vilnius, Klaipėda and Šiauliai.

Can maps be updated for a car older than 2004?

For American Toyotas with Gen2–Gen3 systems (e.g., Camry, Sienna, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, from 2001) we have maps. In other cases, we answer based on the system model.

Why does the navigation not work after inserting the disc?

The most common reason is that the startup procedure has not been performed. It is described in the section „What the signs of outdated Toyota maps show”; it is performed by a technician at the service center.
