Volvo navigation maps are stored on a disc, HDD or SD card, and an update replaces the road data with a newer version. We update maps for Volvo RTI, IAM 2.1 and Sensus systems with detailed Lithuania and European countries.

First, we determine which system is installed in your car, as this determines the storage medium (DVD, HDD or SD). You can find general information about updating navigation systems of all brands on the navigation update service page.

  • How much does the update cost? The price depends on the type of Volvo system (DVD, HDD or SD) and is agreed before the work. The initial diagnostics cost €10.
  • Do I need to register? No. You also don’t need to call before coming – simply visit any service point Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00.
  • What warranty is provided? A 1-year warranty is provided for the map update. The maps are the latest available versions.
  • How do I find out which system I have? By model and year of manufacture: for example, the XC60 had several different systems over the years. You will find the list below, and we will clear up any doubts on site.

How to tell that your Volvo map is outdated

Most often the problem is not a fault, but an old or incompatible map. Here are the symptoms Volvo drivers come to us with.

01

The navigation shows the wrong location or a road that does not exist

WhyThe map version may be old, so new roads, roundabouts and traffic changes are not mapped. In rarer cases, the GPS antenna is at fault.

Check it yourselfCheck that the car is in an open area rather than an underground car park. In the system menu, look up the map version.

What we doWe check the map version and the system, and update the maps. If the location is still wrong, we check the GPS signal. Read more in the article why the navigation shows the wrong location.

02

Volvo navigation update price – what it depends on

WhyThe price depends on the system: DVD discs, two HDD drives or an SD card require different work and different media.

Check it yourselfLook up your car’s model and year – they determine which system you have.

What we doWe identify the system, tell you the price, and only then carry out the update.

Navigation not working after trying to update it yourself

WhyMost often a map for the wrong system was installed, or the installation was interrupted, for example because of a drained battery.

Check it yourselfDo not repeat the installation with different discs and do not use maps of unknown origin – it is better to bring the system to a service point for inspection.

What we doWe diagnose the system, fix the software error and install the correct map version. The initial diagnostics cost €10.

04

Navigation without internet – will the Volvo map work

WhyThe maps of these Volvo systems are stored on a disc, HDD or SD card, so the route works even without a connection. The internet is only needed for additional services.

Check it yourselfCheck whether the map in your system is stored on a disc, HDD or SD – in that case no connection is needed for routing.

What we doWe identify the system and update the maps of Lithuania and Europe on the storage medium.

05

Volvo XC60 navigation update – which system is yours

WhyThe XC60 had several systems over the years: from RTI MMM2 (2009–2010) to Sensus Connect (from 2014). The maps are not compatible with each other.

Check yourselfWrite down the year of manufacture from the vehicle registration certificate.

What we doBased on the year, we select the right map set and update it.

The system does not detect the SD card or cannot read the disc

WhyThe card may be damaged, and the disc may be scratched. Sometimes the reader in the system itself is at fault.

Check yourselfRemove the media and inspect it for scratches or dirt.

What we doWe check the media and the reader. If necessary, we write the maps to new media. The initial diagnostics cost 10 €.

Myths about Volvo navigation updates

  • Myth. Any map can be installed, as long as it is for a Volvo. In fact. Each system (RTI, IAM, Sensus) uses its own format. An unsuitable map will not update the system.
  • Myth. If you have Google Maps on your phone, you no longer need to update the car’s system. In fact. A phone is convenient, but it needs a connection. The built-in system works even without the internet.
  • Myth. An update replaces the entire navigation system. In fact. A new map updates the road data, not the operation or interface of the system itself.

Which Volvo systems we update maps for

We update maps for six Volvo navigation systems. By year, they break down as follows:

  • RTI MMM2 with DVD: S80 and XC70 approximately 2007–2011, V70 2008–2011, XC60 2009–2010.
  • RTI MMM+ with HDD: C30, C70, S40, V50 (approximately 2008–2013) and XC90 2007–2014.
  • RTI MMM P2001 with DVD: older models from 2002 to 2009 (S60, S80, V70, XC70, XC90, etc.)
  • IAM 2.1 with HDD: S60, V60, XC60 2011–2013, S80, V70, XC70, V40 2012–2014.
  • Sensus Connected Touch IGO with SD: S60, V60, XC60 2011–2014 and other models from that period.
  • Sensus Connect MCA-SPA with HDD: S60, V60, XC60 from 2014, XC90 from 2016, S90 and V90 from 2017.

If you are unsure about your system, come in with your car – a technician will identify it on the spot.

Navigation map disc and car system

How the update works

In Volvo systems, maps are stored on a DVD, HDD or SD card, so the first step is to identify the system type. Then we select the right set of Lithuanian and European maps.

If the map does not update and you suspect a system fault, the initial diagnostics cost 10 €. We give the repair price after diagnostics and agree on it before the work.

What will make identifying the system easier

  • The known car model and year of manufacture
  • The vehicle registration certificate, if you have it at hand
  • The SD card or discs, if you have them
  • A note on when you noticed the outdated map or error

  3. We agree on the price. We tell you the price and agree on it before the work. If fault diagnostics are needed, they cost 10 €.
  4. We update the maps. We install the latest maps of Lithuania and Europe and check that the system works.
  5. Warranty. A 1-year warranty is provided for the map update.

Customers often ask about Volvo maps

Why is the navigation not working?

Most often the cause is an outdated map version, a damaged storage medium or a poor GPS signal. If the screen does not respond at all, diagnostics are needed, which cost 10 €.

Can I update the Volvo navigation myself?

For some systems, the maps can be installed yourself from a disc, but an interrupted or incorrect installation may leave the system inoperable. If you are not sure, bring it to a service point. We describe the general procedure in the article how to update car navigation.

How much does a Volvo navigation update cost?

The price depends on the system. We tell you the price once we have identified your system, and agree on it before the work.

Are saved locations lost after updating the maps?

It depends on the system, so it is worth writing down important locations before the update.

Is the update also suitable for the Volvo XC60 and XC90?

Yes, but they use different map sets depending on the year of manufacture. For more about these processes, see map update 2026.
