A navigation update in Vilnius is most often needed when the city changes faster than the device: a new district appears, the traffic layout is changed, a street becomes one-way. The navigation then directs you where you can no longer drive, or suggests a longer route than necessary.

At the Žirmūnai service point we accept portable navigation devices, devices with the iGo software and integrated car systems whose maps are stored on an SD card, a disc or an internal HDD. If you do not know which map version is installed or whether the problem is related to the maps, we determine this during inspection. How to do it yourself is described in the article how to update your car navigation.

  • Where in Vilnius do you update navigation devices? In Žirmūnai, at the Naujoji small “Rimi” store next to McDonald’s, under the “elMeistrai” sign. The exact address and map are provided in the service point card.

  • How much does the initial diagnostics cost? The initial diagnostics cost 10 €. We tell you the update or repair price after it and agree on it before starting work.

How to bring your device to the Žirmūnai service point

You will find the service point in Žirmūnai, at the Naujoji small “Rimi” store next to McDonald’s – look for the “elMeistrai” sign. The service point is closed at weekends.

Bring your portable navigation device with its charger cable. The cable lets us immediately check whether the problem is in the charging socket itself.

With an integrated car system the situation is different: an SD card or another storage medium is often enough, but in some models the maps are stored on a disc or HDD. This depends on the car manufacturer and year, so it is best to discuss it with the technician on site.

Do not format the card and do not try to reinstall the software yourself – it is better to have the technician inspect the device first.

What happens when you leave your navigation device at the service point

First we carry out the initial diagnostics – it costs 10 €. The technician checks whether installing new maps is enough, whether the software needs to be restored, or whether the socket, battery, screen or GPS receiver is at fault.

Only then do we give you a specific price and agree on it before starting work. We change nothing without your consent. If parts need to be replaced, we use original ones, and a warranty is provided for the work carried out.

Map update prices start from 15 € for portable navigation devices, from 20 € for iGo and WinCE devices, and from 40 € for integrated car systems. The final price depends on the model and the condition of the device.

When a map update alone may not be enough

Outdated maps are only one of the reasons why navigation gives wrong directions. If the displayed position “jumps” or the device takes a long time to find satellites, the antenna or GPS receiver may be at fault rather than the data. We write about this in more detail in the article why navigation shows the wrong location.

A few more signs that it is worth looking further:

  • the device keeps repeating the logo and the system does not boot – the software usually needs to be restored;
  • the battery drains within a few minutes or the navigation only works when connected to the charger;
  • the sensor does not respond to touch or the glass is broken;
  • after trying to update via a computer, the Garmin is not detected or shows an error;
  • say „no map” or do not detect the SD card.

We will tell you whether an update is worthwhile after diagnostics.

What to bring to the Vilnius service point

  • the navigation device itself or the car system’s SD card or other storage medium
  • a charger or USB cable
  • a holder, if you have one (optional)
  • information about the car make and year of manufacture, if an integrated system is being updated
  • the map version installed, if you know it
  • a description of exactly what is happening: it won’t start, freezes, shows an error
