Here are the most common vacuum cleaner faults and their causes. Some of them you can easily fix yourself, but for most of them we recommend that you contact our experts.

Vacuum cleaner repair - won't turn on (not working)

1. First check the power supply. Make sure the vacuum cleaner is plugged into a working power socket.
2. A blockage may cause the thermal cut-out to trip. Check the hose and filters for blockages. Then leave the pump switched off for a few hours before trying to switch it on again.
3. Overfilled dust bag. Replace the bag with a new one.
4. Damaged vacuum cleaner cord. The cord needs to be replaced with a new one. In this case, the vacuum cleaner must be repaired by us in a specialised workshop.
5. Faulty on/off switch. Repairs should also be carried out in a workshop.
6. Engine. Motor failure is often caused by another problem, such as clogged filters or using the same vacuum cleaner bag too often. Repair or replacement of the vacuum cleaner motor should only be carried out by technicians, while at the same time dealing with the other problem causing the fault.

Repairing your vacuum cleaner when it smells bad

1. The most likely cause of the problem is an odour-causing vacuum cleaner bag (in bagged vacuum cleaners) or dust collection container. Simply replace the bag or clean the dust container.
2. Dirty filters. Try cleaning the filters with a mixture of baking soda and water - if this doesn't work, the filters will need to be replaced.
3. Blocked hose or nozzles. Remove the hose and check for blockages. If the hose is completely plastic, you can leave it in soapy water overnight. Plastic nozzles can also be left to soak overnight.
4. A burnt engine emits an unpleasant smell. For vacuum pump motor repairs, bring the pump to us.

Vacuum cleaner with reduced suction or no suction at all - vacuum cleaner repair

1. Full bag or container. Replace the bag or clean the dust container.
2. Dirty filters. Change filters.
3. Blocked hose or nozzles. Clean them.
4. Holes or tears in the vacuum cleaner hose can significantly reduce the suction. Replace the hose with a new one.

Vacuum cleaner emits a smell of combustion

1. Carefully check the vacuum cleaner cable, plug and wall socket.
2. Clogged filters or an overfilled bag can put extra load on the engine1 and cause it to overheat. To solve the problem, empty the bag and clean or replace the filters.
