Computer motherboard diagnostics

One of the most difficult tasks in computer repair is diagnosing and repairing the motherboard. This procedure is characterised by the fact that the difficulty lies not in fixing the fault, but in pinpointing it. A variety of tools are used for this purpose: voltage testers, oscillographs, external sources of electrical current. In addition, experience in reading schematics is required.

To make diagnosis as fast and efficient as possible, we take into account how the computer behaves. This makes diagnostics faster and more efficient. For example, if the computer does not turn on completely and no light is on, the diagnosis of computer motherboards starts with a check of the power supply circuit. Diagnosis of this circuit starts with a possible broken power supply checking the socket. The tester is used to check that the required voltage reaches all the required points.

If the computer's indicator lights are on and the voltage may be coming on, then check BGA video chip. When it fails, the components around it shorten.

All walkways are also checked for corrosion (i.e. liquid spillages). If such damage is found, they shall be resurfaced. Other components may also be damaged by corrosion and need to be replaced. Replacement parts include donors i.e. other computers are dismantled, as many of the components cannot usually be bought and are specific to that model.

In certain cases where the motherboard cannot be found to be faulty or is in an unrepairable condition, i.e. possible internal cracks or irreparably damaged tracks, we can replace the motherboard with a new or used one.
