Older Porsche cars with the PCM system do not receive maps from the internet but from discs, so the navigation maps do not update on their own. After a few years, new streets, roundabouts and motorway sections simply do not exist on the screen, and the car appears to be “driving across a field”.

We select maps for your PCM version: PCM 2.1 with DVD or PCM 2.0 with CD. You can find general information about the systems of all makes on the navigation update page.

  • How much does an update cost? Maps cost from €40, while the full European set costs more. We give the exact amount once we know your PCM version and agree on it with you before any work begins.
  • Which systems have maps available? PCM 2.1 with DVD (one Europe disc) and PCM 2.0 with CD (a set of eight discs, which can be purchased by region).
  • Do I need to register? No. Just come to any elMeistrai service point during working hours, Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00.
  • Do you provide a warranty? Yes, we provide a 1-year warranty on map discs.

What the symptoms show: when a Porsche map is already outdated

Most often the problem is not a fault but an old map disc or a system error. Here is what people notice.

01from 40 €

Navigation maps are outdated, new roads are missing

WhyThe PCM system uses a database recorded on the disc, which does not change without a new disc. After a few years, new roundabouts and motorways are missing.

Check it yourselfCheck which map version is inserted and whether the PCM model is 2.0 or 2.1.

What we doWe select the suitable disc or set for your PCM version and the level of detail for Lithuania.

02from €50

Navigation shows the wrong location

WhyThe map may be too old or the GPS signal may be poor. For other causes, read the article why navigation shows the wrong location.

Check it yourselfDrive to an open area without buildings and wait a few minutes while the system finds satellites.

What we doWe check whether the problem is software-related or connected to the GPS module, and propose a solution.

03from 80 €

Why navigation does not work after inserting a disc

WhyThe disc may be for the wrong PCM version or may be damaged. Sometimes the cause is also the disc reader.

Check it yourselfCheck that the disc is intended for your PCM version: CD – PCM 2.0, DVD – PCM 2.1.

What we doWe check the disc and the reader and, if necessary, replace the disc with a suitable one.

04from €40

Map of a country or region is missing

WhyIn the PCM 2.0 system, maps are divided across eight CDs by country, so the disc you need may simply not be there.

Check it yourselfLook at which discs are in the car and which countries they cover.

What we doWe offer the missing disc or the full set.

05from €80

Navigation does not detect the disc or takes a long time to load it

WhyMost often the cause is the condition of the disc or the disc reader, for example wear or dust.

What we doWe diagnose the reader and decide whether it is worth repairing or replacing.

06from €50

Navigation screen freezes or restarts

WhyIt may be a software error. We write more about this in the article on updating car navigation.

Check it yourselfNote down when and under what circumstances the screen freezes – this will help with diagnostics.

What we doWe carry out diagnostics and repair the software part.

Myths about updating Porsche navigation

  • Myth. PCM maps can be updated via phone or the internet. In fact. PCM 2.0 and 2.1 systems read maps from a CD or DVD, so you need the right disc, not an app.
  • Myth. Any European map disc will do. In fact. The disc must match the PCM version: the CD is for PCM 2.0, the DVD is for PCM 2.1. An unsuitable disc will not work in the system.
  • Myth. If the map is old, the navigation is broken. In fact. Most often the equipment works and simply lacks new data. A fault is indicated not by outdated roads, but by the disc not being read or by errors.

Which Porsche models and systems we update

PCM 2.1 DVD maps are intended for cars from approximately 2005–2008: 911 (997), Carrera, GT2, GT3, Targa 4, Turbo, as well as Boxster, Cayman and Cayenne. The disc includes Lithuania (detailed map) and more than 30 European countries, including Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Germany and the Scandinavian countries.

For the PCM 2.0 CD system, the maps are divided into eight discs. The eighth contains Lithuania (detailed), Latvia, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic and other Eastern European countries. To choose, see the full article navigation map update.

If you do not know your PCM version, just bring in the car – we will determine the version.

How maps are installed in the Porsche system

Maps are selected according to the PCM version: PCM 2.1 uses DVD, PCM 2.0 uses a CD set. We described the general logic in the article how to install new maps.

If the system still shows errors after the update, we focus mainly on the disc reader and the software.

Before you bring it in

  • Know your car’s model and year of manufacture
  • Bring the navigation disc or discs you currently use
  • If you do not know your PCM version, just bring in the car – we will determine the version
  • Describe when you noticed the problem

Customers often ask about Porsche navigation

Can the navigation be used without internet?

Yes. PCM 2.0 and 2.1 maps are stored on the disc, so the navigation works without internet.

Are Porsche maps available in Lithuanian?

Lithuania is recorded on the disc in detail. The language depends on the system settings, which we check during the update.

Can Google Maps be used instead of a map disc?

A phone can supplement it, but it does not update the built-in PCM system. If you want the screen to show new roads, you need a suitable map disc.

How often should maps be updated?

It depends on how you drive. If you often visit new places or travel abroad, outdated data becomes noticeable sooner, while if you keep driving the same routes you can update less often.
