Phone repair at elMeistrai service points starts with a diagnostic: the technician opens the phone, finds the real cause of the fault and only then tells you the price. The initial diagnostic costs 10 €, and the repair price is agreed before any work begins. This way you don’t pay for parts or work that your phone doesn’t actually need.

The most common problems we see are a smashed screen, a battery that drains quickly, a port that no longer charges, or a phone that has come into contact with water. We repair iPhone, Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei and other brands of phones. Below you will find a symptom guide, a price list and answers to the questions customers ask most often. If your screen is already broken, you can first take a look at the article on broken screen repair.

  • How much does phone repair cost? The initial diagnostic costs 10 €, and the repair itself starts from 10 € plus parts. We give you the exact price after the diagnostic and agree on it before the repair.
  • How long does a repair take? We carry out the diagnostic within 1 business day. We tell you the repair time after the diagnostic, together with the list of faults and prices.
  • Do I need to book in advance? No. Simply visit any elMeistrai service point in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda or Šiauliai, Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm.
  • Is it worth repairing an old phone? Usually it is, when the repair costs less than about half the price of a similar new phone. After the diagnostic, we will tell you whether the numbers make sense.

Phone repair by symptom: what the fault means

People rarely bring in a „faulty motherboard” – they bring a phone that „for some reason no longer charges” or „shows streaks”. That is why we have described the faults the way they appear in everyday life, with what you can check yourself and what the technician does.

01from 10 €

Phone screen is smashed or cracked

WhyThe most common cause is a fall onto a hard surface. The larger the screen, the more sensitive it is to impact. Beneath the glass, the display panel or the touch sensor itself is often damaged too, so the picture may not start to fail right away.

Check yourselfDo not try to clean up glass shards or open the phone yourself – you may cut yourself and damage the screen flex cable. Bring the phone to a service point as soon as possible.

What we doThe technician opens the phone, melts the adhesive at a controlled temperature, removes the old screen, replaces the adhesive part, fits the new one and checks the cable connections. We give you the final price after the diagnostic.

02from 10 €

Screen flickers, shows streaks or spots

WhyStreaks and spots usually appear after an impact or pressure, when the display panel is damaged or the screen flex cable comes loose. Sometimes overheating or moisture under the screen is to blame.

Check yourselfRestart the phone, update the system and check whether the flickering persists in safe mode. If the streaks don’t change, it is a hardware fault. More: what to do if the screen flickers.

What we doDuring the diagnostic we distinguish between a fault in the screen, the flex cable and the motherboard. If the screen is at fault, we replace it; if it is the contacts or the board, we repair the electronics.

03from 10 €

Touchscreen doesn’t respond or touches by itself

WhyCauses include: a damaged touch layer after an impact, moisture, a poorly glued or unsuitable new screen, or, more rarely, a software error. If the response is lost only in certain areas, the screen is usually to blame.

Check yourselfRemove the screen protector and case, wipe the screen with a dry cloth and restart the phone. More: touchscreen not responding.

What we doWe check whether the touch sensor works across the entire surface, rule out software errors and, if necessary, replace the screen or repair the flex cable connector.

04from 10 €

Phone battery drains quickly

WhyOver the years the battery wears out, especially if the phone often drops to 0% or is kept on the charger for a long time after reaching 100%. Sometimes the battery swells – in that case it needs to be replaced urgently.

Check yourselfCheck which apps use the most power and update the system. If the battery is swollen, do not open it yourself and do not charge the phone if the casing is bulging – bring it to a service point.

What we doWe measure the battery’s condition, replace it with a new one and check the charging circuit so that the new battery doesn’t drain because of another fault. In some models the screen or even the motherboard has to be removed because the battery is glued in.

05from 10 €

Phone doesn’t charge or charges only at a certain angle

WhyMost often dust and lint build up in the port, the contacts wear out or the port’s retaining clips break off. However, the cable, the charger or the charging chip on the motherboard may also be to blame.

Check yourselfTry a different cable and charger, and a different socket. Use a flashlight to see whether there is dirt in the port – more at how to clean the charging port. Do not use metal needles.

What we doWe clean the port or replace it, and if the port is fine, we check the charging circuit and chips.

06from 15 €

Phone fell into water

WhyWater gets onto the motherboard, and corrosion destroys the contacts even a few days later, even if the phone works at first. Salt water, sugary drinks and coffee do more damage than clean water.

Check yourselfSwitch the phone off immediately, do not charge it or dry it with a hair dryer, and do not try to open it. Rice doesn’t help – more at how to get water out of a phone. Bring the phone to a service point as soon as possible.

What we doWe disassemble the phone, clean liquid and deposits off the motherboard, dry it and check which circuits have been affected. The sooner it is brought in, the better the chances of saving both the phone and your data.

07from 10 €

Phone won’t turn on or has become a „brick”

WhyCauses: a completely drained or faulty battery, a damaged power management chip, a short circuit after moisture exposure, or a software error. Sometimes the phone works, but the screen shows no picture.

Check it yourselfDo not try to open it or charge it repeatedly, especially if the phone has been wet, has overheated or the casing has swollen. It is best to bring it to the service centre for diagnostics.

What we doWe measure whether the board is receiving power and check the power circuits, chips and software. If necessary, we repair the board or replace its components.

08from 15 €

Microphone or speaker not working

WhyThe openings get clogged with dust, or the microphone or speaker itself, or its connector, may be damaged after a drop or moisture. If the microphone does not work in only one app, the permission settings may be to blame.

Check it yourselfCheck the apps’ microphone permissions, remove the case and the protective film from the openings, and try making a call on speakerphone. More: when the microphone is not working.

What we doWe clean the openings, replace the microphone or speaker, or repair their connector on the board.

09

Phone not working abroad or without signal

WhyMost often the cause is roaming, the operator’s settings or the SIM card. If there is no signal or „Wi-Fi” in Lithuania either, the antenna or its connector may be damaged.

Check it yourselfCheck whether roaming is enabled, turn airplane mode off and on again, remove and reinsert the SIM card, and try it in another phone.

What we doWe check the SIM reader, the „Wi-Fi” and cellular antennas, and the board’s signal circuits; we repair or replace the faulty part. We tell you the price after diagnostics.

10from 10 €

Camera not working or photos are blurry

WhyThe camera can fail after a drop because the stabiliser breaks, the glass cracks or a connector comes loose. A blurry image is also often caused by simple dirt or moisture under the glass.

Check it yourselfWipe the lens with a soft cloth, restart the phone and try another camera app. More: why the camera stopped working.

What we doWe replace the rear or front camera, and if only the glass is cracked, we replace just that. After the repair, we check the focus and performance in all apps.

Myths about phone repair

  • Myth. A wet phone should be put in rice and it will dry out. In fact. Rice does not remove liquid from under the chips, and corrosion continues to damage the contacts. It is best to turn the phone off, not charge it and bring it in for diagnostics as soon as possible.
  • Myth. A cracked screen is only a cosmetic problem. In fact. Moisture and dust get in through the cracks, the touch sensor may eventually malfunction, and glass splinters can get into your fingers. The longer you wait, the more often the repair ends up being more expensive.
  • Myth. A phone battery must be fully discharged and then charged to 100%. In reality. Modern lithium-ion batteries do not require this. Both deep discharge to 0% and leaving the phone on the charger for a long time after it reaches 100% are harmful to them.
  • Myth. Replacing a battery takes a few minutes, just like before. In reality. In many modern phones the battery is glued in place, and it can sometimes only be reached after removing the screen or taking out the motherboard. That is why the job can be more complicated than replacing the screen itself.

Why repairing a modern phone is not simple

A few years ago it was enough to remove the back cover and replace the battery. Now the phone body is glued shut to make it water- and dust-resistant, so opening it requires controlled temperature. If it is too cold, the screen will not come off; if it is too hot, other parts may be damaged.

Another risk is the screen flex cable. It is as thin as paper, so before removing the screen you must make sure everything is disconnected. For these reasons, DIY attempts at home often end in more serious damage rather than saved money. If you still consider repairing it yourself, read the article how to replace a phone battery at home and assess the risks.

  • Opening the phone and carrying out the repair is done by technicians at the service center.
  • Screen: replacing the adhesive part and reconnecting the cables.
  • Battery: sometimes the screen or the motherboard has to be removed.
  • After the repair: we check the touch sensor, cameras, sound and charging.

Technician’s tip: before bringing in your phone, do not try to open it yourself – such attempts often damage the flex cable or the adhesive layer and make the repair more expensive.

Phone screen replacement and inspection of internal components

Repair or buy a new phone: a simple calculation

Compare the repair price with the price of a similar new phone. If the repair costs less than about half, it is usually worth repairing, especially if the phone still receives system updates and its size and camera suit you.

If the phone is very old, no longer receives updates, and the motherboard needs repair, buying a new one may be the smarter decision. We will tell you after the diagnostics: you will receive the list of faults, prices and timeframe before any work begins, so you can make your decision knowing the numbers. We issue certificates and defect reports for insurance companies or other institutions; whether the insurance will cover the cost is decided by the insurer.

  • Repair costs less than about 50% of the price of a new phone – usually worth repairing.
  • Phone older than 5–6 years and an expensive motherboard repair – worth considering a new one.
  • Undamaged phone with a worn-out battery – replacing the battery is almost always cost-effective.
  • Insured phone – ask for a defect report for the insurance.

Technician’s tip: if you can still use the screen, first make a backup copy of your photos, and then decide on the repair.

Which phones we repair and how we protect your data

We repair iPhone, Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei and other manufacturers’ phones. Before the repair, we discuss which parts will be used; original parts are normally installed. How to tell an original screen from a copy is described in a separate article.

Most people are more afraid of losing their photos than of cracking the screen. Replacing a screen or battery usually does not affect your data, and when software work is carried out, data can be preserved (from 5 €). Read more in the article why people are afraid of losing their photos. Mention this when handing in your phone so that the technician does the work without altering your data.

Technician’s tip: use a screen protector and a case with raised corners – many screens are destroyed precisely by a fall on a corner.

Before bringing in your phone

  • Back up your photos and contacts, if the phone still allows it.
  • Bring the charger and cable – they help check whether the phone or the accessories are at fault.
  • Know your screen lock code or unlock the phone, if the technician needs to check how it works.
  • Remember when and how the fault appeared: after a drop, water, an update, or on its own.
  • Remove the SIM card and sign out of your “iCloud” or “Google” account if you do not plan to leave the phone for a longer period.
  • If you have insurance, bring the policy – ask about a defect report.
