Iron repair most often comes down to one of a few small parts: a burnt-out thermostat, a broken cord, a limescale-clogged steam channel or a cracked soleplate. Such faults often cost considerably less to fix than a new appliance, especially in the case of a steam iron or steam station, which can cost several hundred euros.

Our technicians repair irons and steamers from Philips, Tefal, Bosch, Braun, Rowenta and other manufacturers. You can walk into any service point during working hours without booking in advance: we will carry out diagnostics, tell you what has failed and how much the repair will cost, and the decision is yours.

  • How much does an iron repair cost? The initial diagnostics cost 10 €. We tell you the exact repair price after diagnostics and agree it with you before starting any work.
  • How long does the repair take? The estimated time is 3–5 days, but it depends on the fault. We will discuss a more precise time when you come in.
  • Do I need to book in advance? No. Just come to any service point in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda or Šiauliai from Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 18:00.
  • Is it worth repairing an iron? Most often yes, if the repair costs less than half the price of a comparable new one. We tell you the repair cost after diagnostics.

Iron faults by symptom

Below are the most common symptoms people bring their irons in with, and what you can safely check yourself. Do not open the mains-powered internal parts: inside the iron there is mains voltage and hot components.

01

The iron does not heat up

WhyMost often the thermostat or thermal fuse burns out, the cord breaks near the plug, or the heating element fails. Sometimes the cause is simply an unreliable power socket.

Check yourselfPlug the iron into a different socket, check that the cord and plug are not deformed or darkened, and that the temperature is not set to the lowest level. Do not use a damaged cord.

What we doWe check the heating circuit, determine which part is faulty and replace the thermostat, fuse or heating element.

02

The iron does not heat enough or overheats

WhyAn aged or misadjusted thermostat no longer switches off the heating on time, or switches it off too early. As a result the soleplate is either too cold and fabrics iron poorly, or too hot and scorches them.

Check yourselfCheck that the temperature control is set correctly and try a different setting. If the behavior is strange, do not use the iron any further.

What we doWe check the temperature control, replace the thermostat if necessary and verify that the soleplate heats evenly.

03

The iron does not switch on

WhyA broken internal wire, a faulty switch or power socket, or a tripped thermal fuse. Some models switch off by themselves if they are not moved for a while; this is not a fault.

Check yourselfTry a different power socket and check whether the iron has activated automatic shut-off: move it and wait a few seconds.

What we doWe check the power circuit and, if necessary, replace the switch, socket, cord or fuse.

04

The iron does not produce steam

WhySteam holes and channels become clogged with limescale, and sometimes the steam valve or pump fails. If tap water is used, limescale deposits build up within a few months.

Check yourselfCheck that there is water, that the temperature is set high enough and that the steam mode is on. Descale the iron only according to the manufacturer’s instructions, for example by using the cleaning function.

What we doWe remove limescale from the steam channels, check the valve and pump, and replace the faulty part.

05

The iron drips water

WhyDripping is most often caused by too low a temperature in steam mode, a worn water tank gasket or a limescale-clogged valve. Deposits can cause brown water to drip, which stains fabric.

Check yourselfIncrease the temperature in steam mode, do not fill the tank to the top, and wait until the iron has fully heated up before ironing.

What we doWe replace the gaskets, clean the water path and valve, and check that no water is leaking through the housing.

06

The iron sticks to clothes

WhyThe soleplate is burnt, worn or covered with deposits. Synthetics and silk stick to such a soleplate, and rubbing it damages the coating layer even more.

Check yourselfWipe the fully cooled soleplate with a damp cloth or a suitable soleplate cleaner. Do not use metal scourers, as they scratch the coating.

What we doIf the soleplate coating is deeply damaged, we replace the soleplate where the design allows. Otherwise, together with you, we assess whether the repair makes sense.

07

Damaged cord, plug or swivel connector

WhyOver time the cord breaks where it enters the iron because it is constantly bent. Damaged insulation can pose a risk of electric shock or short circuit.

Check yourselfIf you see cracks, exposed wires or feel an overheated plug, do not plug the iron in. Do not patch such a cord with insulating tape.

What we doWe replace the cord and the cord entry where the design allows, and check that the insulation is undamaged.

08

Steam station or steam iron does not build up pressure

WhyIn a steam generator, the usual culprits are a scaled-up boiler, a faulty valve or a pump. The water heats up, but the steam is weak or comes out with drops of water.

Check it yourselfCheck that the water tank is full and the lid is closed properly. Empty the limescale collector according to the instructions.

What we doWe remove limescale deposits, check the pump and the pressure and temperature sensors, and replace faulty parts.

09

The iron gives electric shocks or trips the fuse

WhyThis is a serious sign that the insulation is damaged or water has got inside. Such an iron may be dangerous to use.

Check it yourselfDo not use the iron any more and do not open it. Unplug it from the mains and bring it to our technicians.

What we doWe check whether the insulation is damaged, look for the damaged spot, and decide together with you whether a repair is safe and makes sense.

Myths about iron repair

  • Myth. If an iron has stopped heating, it should be thrown away. In fact. Often the culprit is a single inexpensive component: a thermostat, a fuse or a cord. As long as the soleplate is intact, a repair usually costs less than a new iron.
  • Myth. A broken cord can be fixed with insulating tape. In fact. Such a „patched” spot overheats quickly in a hot iron and poses a risk of electric shock and fire. The whole cord must be replaced, or the damaged section properly removed.
  • Myth. The anti-scale function fully protects against limescale. In fact. It only slows down the build-up of deposits. Hard water still leaves limescale, so the steam channels need to be cleaned periodically, and manufacturers sometimes recommend distilled or mixed water.
  • Myth. Expensive steam irons and steam generators cannot be repaired. In fact. Parts can be replaced in most models. Since a new station is costly, repairing such an appliance is often worth considering.

Repair or buy a new iron

A simple rule: if the repair cost does not exceed about half the price of a new similar iron, repairing is usually worthwhile. A basic iron is often cheap, so an expensive repair may not pay off, while a steam iron or steam generator is a different case.

So before buying a new one, first pay €10 for diagnostics. You will find out what broke and how much the repair would cost, instead of guessing. For the differences between the types, read the article steam iron or traditional.

  • Replacing a thermostat, cord or switch usually costs considerably less than a new iron.
  • Repairing a steam generator boiler or pump is often worth considering, because a new station is expensive.
  • A deeply burnt soleplate or water-damaged electronics is a case where it is worth weighing things up seriously.

Which irons are brought to the service

We most often repair Philips (for example, the Azur series), Tefal, Bosch, Braun and Rowenta irons and steam generators. We also accept lesser-known brands and models sold under store brand names, but the availability of parts depends on the specific model.

If the iron is still covered by the seller’s or manufacturer’s warranty, first check its terms with the seller. We use original parts and provide a warranty for the work performed.

If you have insured the breakdown, we can issue a certificate for the insurance company. Check with your insurer which documents are required.

If the iron was bought new and broke within a few weeks, contact the seller first.

How to make your iron last longer

The two biggest enemies of irons are limescale and a bent cord. Limescale clogs the steam vents and damages the valve, while a cord that is constantly bent at the inlet eventually breaks.

The water you fill the iron with must meet the manufacturer’s requirements: some models allow only distilled or mixed water. After ironing, pour out the remaining water and let the iron cool standing upright.

Do you have other household appliances that are starting to give you trouble? We also repair vacuum cleaners, sewing machines and home robots.

  • Do not wrap the cord around a hot iron.
  • Carry the iron by the handle, not by the cord.
  • Remove limescale only as the instructions specify.

If the iron starts dripping brown water, do not use it on light-colored clothes until you have cleaned the steam channels.

Before bringing in your iron

  • Bring the iron with its cord and water tank (for a steam station, also the tank and hose).
  • Remember when the fault appeared and what you were doing at the time: whether the iron had already stopped heating or was only dripping.
  • Empty the water tank before bringing it in.
  • Take the accessories that came with the set, if you have them, such as a stand or measuring cup.
  • Tell us whether anyone has tried to repair it or descale it beforehand.
  • If you need a certificate for insurance, let us know right away.
